Yes! I finished my first block and figured out how to start an album and all. I think I put the link onto my signature, but just in case I did that wrong, my SBS album is now up with everyone elses. I love yellow and so I am sure you will see quite a bit of that in my stuff.
Thank you Gerda for the encouragement! Indeed, I was pressing but not pinning so had to get on the phone with Mom about that. I will start pinning to help me get my seams straight -- I took one of these out twice! I have the same experiences with my Hubby, but he is pretty good about shopping with me!! Julia, I am jumping in and starting on the easiest of the blocks first. I also got fat quarters at the store yesterday. I like having a bit of lots of different fabrics to choose from. I have to go and eat (baby is hungry) but then I am off to try another!! Jess..I'm sorry I was gone all day and wasn't here to cheer you on early...now look at you!!!! Congratulations on a beautiful job...I think you are kidding us about it being your first block ever, aren't you? It looks like it was done by a pro to my eyes. I'm also pleased you got your album set up without any problem.
I'm so happy you are joining us in this...Pick and choose the blocks you want to do...start with easy and progress as you get more confident which I suspect will happen pretty quickly. I'm anxious to get back to making these but it will probably not happen before next week. ********************************************** "Integrity is what we do, what we say, and what we say we do" SYLVIA'S BRIDAL SAMPLER DISCUSSION & ALBUMS: http://tinyurl.com/pmx8m BLOCK CENTRAL BASKET CHALLENGE ALBUM: http://tinyurl.com/npn5x A YEAR OF TABLE RUNNERS ALBUM: http://tinyurl.com/lqym6 Personal quilt albums on Yahoo: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/marypbgks/my_photos |

Hey everyone. Thanks for the encouragement -- I am having so much fun.
Jacqui - Let's see.... I got three shades of blue, 2 shades of the red, 3 of the green, 2 tans, and 2 yellows. I already had 2 other yellows that I have set aside for this and Mom bought me 10 yards of various yellows while in Nashville, so I can't wait to get those!! Mary - You are too kind. Mom and I differ quite a bit in our tastes and styles (she loves bright, contrasting colors and I am a bit more into colors that occur in nature). Also, I am a perfectionist and she is not so much. She hassles me all of the time and says, "Finished is better than perfect!" Ah, well... I still redid that seam three times till I got it straight!! I have the pieces cut for my second block, and I want to finish it tonight. I may not, however, because the baby is sitting on a nerve and I am afraid it may be time for a little bed rest. Anyway, I will be back around tomorrow if not later tonight. Jess...your perfectionist traits are clear...both of your blocks are wonderful and if perfect is what you want to aim for, then you will be perfect. Sometimes I'm a perfectionist and other times I can accept a little less...it varies. I'm just tickled to death to be able to share in the excitement of a brand new quilter...for me it's like reliving the experience of that first blush of love for quilting all over again. Reminds me of when FlaDeb was new on here and so eagerly jumped into lots of new projects and "new to her" skills which she quickly mastered and has not looked back. What fun. We are all richer for being able to see these things through new eyes from time to time.
Char, I can't wait to see your blocks too. I'm sure you've done a very good job. Isn't it an inspiring challenge?

Well, I just posted two more. That last one (L-10: Contrary Wife) gave my quite a bit of trouble. I finally started the whole thing over, and it worked better. Not sure what happened with that first one!! The colors in the pictures show up a bit weird, but I don't have great photo software. The yellows really go together well and bring all four blocks together, I think.
Thank you all for such encouragement. I am having so much fun making these and can't wait to post them here to share. I have had a hard time getting into quilting before, because Mom was new to it at the time and so was I. Now, it is nice to be on the site and learn from all that everyone has done. On a side note, Mom is in a plane back to Texas. Now I am trying to figure out how to get her to visit me before October so she can "share her wealth of new knowledge" and bring me all of those lovely yellows!!
