Lillie, you've made two more beautiful blocks! You're going to be done in no time at the rate you are going. Great job!

All of your blocks are beautiful. I hope I can join in on the fun. They are 6 inch blocks....I have a question, what do you use for a border? Is it 84 inches square? It's truely a gorgeous project. I think some of the blocks are too hard for me. I might get a couple easier ones from the cache. Thanks Mary for the great project.

Priscilla, you can make as many or as few of the blocks as you want and even mix in other blocks if you wish. It is totally a personal choice what size quilt you make and how many blocks you include. I do hope you will join us. I keep hoping I can find time to get back to working on mine but other things keep cropping up to prevent that from happening.

Priscilla, Mary is right on - make whichever ones you like, and don't forget there are many other blocks out there that can be made in 6" blocks.

Settings and borders are generally your own idea = did you check that site further? There are a few finished ones shown, to give you an idea.

Also, on the main page is a photo of Jennifer's (I think).

And here's the FAQ page - it may answer other questions. Go for it, girl! I have made 2, well actually 3 but it came out the wrong size because I made it when first posted, and then she posted the correct measurements.

Gerda-OHHH all that work. That is a shame.

The blocks are so small. Nice but small. I think this is more for an advanced quilter. I am stuck on my first one. The silver and gold block in row F. Or maybe I am just that bad of a quilter. I never knew how hard the smaller blocks were. Making them 9 inches would be a lot easier. Maybe not so pretty as the 6 inch blocks...but easier. Maybe if I cannot do the smaller ones I will enlarge them a little. I am going to give that silver and gold block one more try. If it doesn't come out any better I am going to give up and go back to cats. WinkSmile

Priscilla, judging by the completed quilts you posted I think you are a great quilter! I can't see anything wrong with enlarging the blocks to a comfortable size if you want to do the math to do so. Some would be easier than others. Just remember it's your quilt so any choices you make are just perfect!

Priscilla, it looks like you picked one of the advanced blocks to begin with. But not to fret. If you still want to try this one, and not try inset or Y-seams (though they are not hard, just takes a bit more patience and slower speed on the machine - you stitch UP TO the seam line and backstitch two stitches. Then remove from machine, and stitch the next seam, again stopping at the seam line. Your two lines of stitching should meet but with the seam allowances in between.I'll look for a tutorial for you.) The easier way (and 6" blocks are not harder, your seam allowances are always 1/4") - take your drawing that you printed out and draw in lines for the new triangles, diagonally through the square and top point to the longest line - now you can see what you will be doing. For the set in triangles - take your B square (corners) and your C triangles (centres of sides), draw a line from the point of the triangle perpendicular to the longest line to divide the triangle into two triangles. Cut this out. Now lay them down on paper, trace around the two original lines, and add a 1/4" seam allowance line where there is no line - where you cut. You now should have two triangles. These can be sewn onto the ends of the diamonds. The square you would draw a diagonal line from corner to corner, cut apart there, giving you triangles Again, draw them out again on paper, adding your 1/4" seam allowance to the longest line. These triangles can now be added to the diamonds. You would now have 4 quarters of your blocks. Sew two quarters together, sew the other two quarters together, then match and pin carefully both halves. You will end up with a finished block.

One tip - if you try the Y-seam/inset seams, use an open-toe foot - it makes it so much easier to see. And don't forget to mark the dots - not on this pattern but they would be at the point of the triangles where two adjacent sides meet, and on the diamonds, where two sides meet.

Don't be afraid to try something, Priscilla - that's how you gain confidence. And many of the blocks in this quilt are simple ones. Look at 6" blocks this way - SHORTER SEAMS!!! Smile

YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Go, girl!! Go, girl!! Smile

If anything is not clear, or someone else has something to add, please feel free to ask or add!

Priscilla, there are a couple of ladies who are beginners who are doing this - I should have said in the previous post, you might want to start with simpler blocks just to get used to 6" blocks - yes, the pieces are smaller, but the seams are shorter. SmileSmile
