Priscilla, Mary is right on - make whichever ones you like, and don't forget there are many other blocks out there that can be made in 6" blocks. Settings and borders are generally your own idea = did you check that site further? There are a few finished ones shown, to give you an idea. http://homepage.mac.com/chiaverini/sylviasbridalsampler/blog/blog.html Also, on the main page is a photo of Jennifer's (I think). http://homepage.mac.com/chiaverini/sylviasbridalsampler/And here's the FAQ page - it may answer other questions. Go for it, girl! I have made 2, well actually 3 but it came out the wrong size because I made it when first posted, and then she posted the correct measurements. Gerda

Priscilla, it looks like you picked one of the advanced blocks to begin with. But not to fret. If you still want to try this one, and not try inset or Y-seams (though they are not hard, just takes a bit more patience and slower speed on the machine - you stitch UP TO the seam line and backstitch two stitches. Then remove from machine, and stitch the next seam, again stopping at the seam line. Your two lines of stitching should meet but with the seam allowances in between.I'll look for a tutorial for you.) The easier way (and 6" blocks are not harder, your seam allowances are always 1/4") - take your drawing that you printed out and draw in lines for the new triangles, diagonally through the square and top point to the longest line - now you can see what you will be doing. For the set in triangles - take your B square (corners) and your C triangles (centres of sides), draw a line from the point of the triangle perpendicular to the longest line to divide the triangle into two triangles. Cut this out. Now lay them down on paper, trace around the two original lines, and add a 1/4" seam allowance line where there is no line - where you cut. You now should have two triangles. These can be sewn onto the ends of the diamonds. The square you would draw a diagonal line from corner to corner, cut apart there, giving you triangles Again, draw them out again on paper, adding your 1/4" seam allowance to the longest line. These triangles can now be added to the diamonds. You would now have 4 quarters of your blocks. Sew two quarters together, sew the other two quarters together, then match and pin carefully both halves. You will end up with a finished block. One tip - if you try the Y-seam/inset seams, use an open-toe foot - it makes it so much easier to see. And don't forget to mark the dots - not on this pattern but they would be at the point of the triangles where two adjacent sides meet, and on the diamonds, where two sides meet. http://www.jankrentz.com/yseams_public.htmlhttp://www.sharonschamber.com/Y%20seams%20Class%20Hand%20Piecing.pdfDon't be afraid to try something, Priscilla - that's how you gain confidence. And many of the blocks in this quilt are simple ones. Look at 6" blocks this way - SHORTER SEAMS!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Go, girl!! Go, girl!! Gerda

If anything is not clear, or someone else has something to add, please feel free to ask or add! Priscilla, there are a couple of ladies who are beginners who are doing this - I should have said in the previous post, you might want to start with simpler blocks just to get used to 6" blocks - yes, the pieces are smaller, but the seams are shorter.
