I need help please!
Remember, this is the first time I've hand pieced. I can NOT get block I2 to go together. This is the third time I've ripped it out!! I can get three of the four sections to "fit", but the 4th will not go in correctly. Can someone give me some hints?
Thanks!

Char, I - 2, Winding Ways?? Are you piecing it the way she shows? first one half, then add the two centre wedges, then piece the second half and join? Or do you mean the four curved corner pieces? Have you pressed the seams open? With this many seams meeting, having them open helps. Can you post a pic of what you have so far? That would help! I'll check back in a bit.

Yes, I did piece the way she said - one side "matched up, but the other side is at least 1/8" off. Like I said, I'm new to this hand piecing thing, and all that fabric coming together in the middle is what is throwing me off, I think Big Grin I've been very good about making the templates correctly and have tried very hard to keep the seams at exactly 1/4". Perhaps I'll just keep this one and work on a few more and come back to it when I'm a bit more experienced!! LOL Now you certainly didn't expect a beginner to start with the 9 patch, did you?? Big Grin
I've posted the block, but let me know if you need a better shot!
Thanks!!

PS The blocks have not been squared up yet, so don't panic when you see them!! LOL

Char, looks like you are doing a fine job with your blocks, beginner or otherwise. And I love your fabric choices. By the time you make it through all the blocks you will be a hand piecing expert!

Char, it's looking good, but I see what you mean. Have you tried pinning through the two seams (one may be a tad narrower) to match them up? Remember what TeXas said in her tutorial? To keep checking the back while you're stitching - she did have pencil lines to follow, I believe, but for the ends there, I would think just keep an eye on the seam.
And did you start at the white ends or the red? I think maybe the red end would be easier to match up first. I have not hand pieced yet, hope to start soon, but it seems like machine piecing it might cause the same problem (and that would be harder to unsew!!!). Try it again when you feel ready. I really like all the blocks you've done so far. I only have two so far. I think I might try that one really soon (I have templates from Marti Michell because I want to make a large WW quilt one of these days - just love the look!)

BEginners can make anything they want - if they don't know it's perceived to be difficult by many, they just go for it - I've heard of a few that made double Wedding Rings and other curved quilts for first projects. Like I tell my granddaughter (#2) when she gets frustrated at not being able to do or draw something, you had to practice to learn to crawl and walk and talk, so you have to keep practicing to get better. You're doing fine, Debbie!!

If I can help any more, let me know!! SmileSmile

Thanks, Gerda! I am really loving htis hand piecing!! Now to hand quilt! I will try your suggestions and see if I can fix it! I did start on the white ends and work toward the middle from both sides, so that may be the problem. I will take it apart, ever so gently, in the next few days and see if I can make it fit.

MaryKS - thanks for the compliments on the fabrics. That's my weakest point - picking the fabs. I've finally found a good LQS and she's helping me pick a few FQs at a time. You guys are they greatest!

Finished another eight blocks yesterday and added them to my album. I broke out of my disciplined mode of making them in order and decided to get some of the easy ones done so I could feel like I was making progress..of course that will leave the more time consuming ones all for last if I keep working this way.
