Yeah, I agree, Betty, Mosul is not a good place to be if you wear a patch with the US Flag on it. Bless his heart, I will keep him in my prayers.

I just peeked at this thread, and I'll also send some prayers your son's way. The power of prayer is AWESOME!

Gerda asked me how the big move across country was coming. Thought I would update you all.

Gordon is not sure when they will be leaving. He is supposed to report July 1, but..... The USCG has re-organized its chain of command so instead of everything going through group, in this case, Cleveland, it now goes through his sector. Sector Lake Michigan is the largest sector in the CG, somebody somewhere has lost his paperwork! Until he gets it, he cannot contract with movers or reserve passage on the car ferry that will take them to the island, or request vouchers so they can make a security payment on a rental payment, or even have travel expenses to get them from here to there.

Plus, and this I did not know, there are no snakes and no rats indigenous to Alaska. The only rats are those that have come ashore from ships. Since there are no natural predators, Alaska has embarked on a rat eradication project. Some rats are permissible as pets, but the various statues do not agree. One says that "albino" rats are okay, the other says "white".

Well, this is like comparing apples to oranges. "Albino" means an absence of pigmentation, "white" is a species. DDIL has been on the phone with everybody from the one vet on the island, with whom she had hoped to get a job, until she challenged his comprehension of the statute (I can just see her, she comes by her Irish honestly!), right up the food chain to and including the head of the agriculture department overseeing the program.

Apparently, three of the four rats can go. They have found another home for it, thankfully. I told them I would babysit the historic gun collection, I would babysit the '67 Olds, but under no circumstances did I have plans to babysit any of grandvermin! LOL

Every marriage has it trials and tribulations, and how you pull together as a team, or are pulled apart by it, determines whether or not you will have a happy marriage or not, or even any marriage at all. I think this move is going to be their first big trial. Please keep them in your thoughts that they work together to find solutions, not inadvertently work against one another, and especially that they not loose their sense of humor. They are going to need them!

Thanks for the update, Meg! Sure hope the sector gets its act together soon! And I fully agree - no vermin sitting!!! Hey, did you know Alberta is rat-free? We have full time personnel chasing down any that come in from Saskatchewan or British Columbia, when they are reported. Good for DDIL on her challenge!

And yes, I will keep them in my prayers.

Gerda
