May I trouble you all for a little prayer occasionally? Hubby just found out yesterday that the local Archer-Daniels-Midland Research Farm where he works will be closing on June 30. We thought this was coming for sometime now, but they finally made it official yesterday.

There's a pretty good chance that Purdue University will buy the farm - at least they're interested in it and will be coming down sometime in the near future to look it over. If they do buy it, more than likely the current employees will be offered the opportunity to keep their jobs. But if the farm doesn't sell, then it will be closed.

Hubby is 57 years old and with the job market in a decline around here, he may have trouble finding another decent-paying job. He'll do almost any kind of work, and even work two jobs if necessary, but it may be difficult to find anything. If ADM does close, he'll at least get some sort of severence pay - and will be able to draw unemployment - but our budget will be tight!

We're keeping fingers and toes crossed that Purdue will buy the farm and everyone can keep their jobs. Purdue has a campus in Ft. Wayne so it would be logical for them to buy this place since it's only about 25 miles away - rather than their other research vacilities that are clear across the state at Lafayette.

Nola-

Here's hoping that Cow College (just a little Hoosier humor from a former IU student! hehehe) will buy the farm. Hugs to you and family in the interim.

Meg, you are funny! I haven't heard anyone say "Cow College" in years!

I'm not really worried about this situation. There was a time when I would have worried, but a few years ago something happened that make me truly realize that God is in control and will take care of our problems IF WE LET HIM! At that time my little doggie had sneaked out of the house unseen. It was hours before I missed him. I spent the entire evening driving up and down the road calling him, the neighbors were all out hunting him - no sign of the little guy. I was so sure I'd never see him again! Could have dealt with it if I'd found him dead on the road, but to have never found him, never known if someone took him, if he became a meal for a coyote - I couldn't have taken that.

I bawled most of the night, and prayed, prayed, prayed. Finally dozed off and dreamed I heard him barking. Woke up and started praying again when suddenly this very peaceful feeling came over me, and I KNEW, without doubt, that I'd find my Miki in the morning.

Started out early hunting him again, ran in to a guy who lives up the road 1/2 a mile and asked Dave if he'd seen a doggie that fit Miki's description. "Yep, I saw him a few minutes ago up by the Mormon Church." Stopped there, the minister was just parking his car so told him about my dog, and he said he'd have the kids look for him. Came home, picked up my hubby, drove back up the road - no Miki. Turned around and headed back and Rod yelled, "There he is!!" Miki was just crossing the road, headed back over to the church yard.

What's the point of this story, you ask? Well, the point is, I realized then and there that if God cared enough about a little old doggie with no value at all except to me to keep him safe, then how much more does God care for us!!!

So now when I have a problem like this job situation, I just turn it over to God, "hang it on the cross" as they say, and know that God will work it out in a better way than we could ever imagine.

Hugs to all,
Nola

I just found your post I am sorry that I missed it during the time you posted it to the request thread.

You and hubby are in my prayers for his new job, God is in control and He will come through just at the right time and you both will be fine. How do people survivie without HIM, your both in good hands and you have a wonderful support group here and so there are many who are thinking of you and saying prayers ~where 2 or 3 are gathered in His name there He is in the midst of the storms we go through.
Warm Hugs

Nola, Will pray for your husband's job situation.
Wish my faith was as strong as yours. I keep giving my worries to God, but I am just not getting that sense of peace that tells a person it will be okay this time. Guess I must be enduring a painful faith building "opportunity". Your ability not to worry inspires me.

With prayers for you and yours .......
