I finally got a chance to go visit my mother yesterday before she was discharged and left to go back home. Quite frankly, I was shocked. She seemed very frail and vulnerable.

Even Steve commented after we left that she seemed terribly forgetful. She had a conversation by phone with my niece which we could overhear beacuse my niece talks so loud. Twenty minutes later, my mother was telling us something entirely different. I am hoping that that is the result of being in the hospital for four days and sleep deprivation. For a cardiac care unit, it was incredibly noisy.

Meg,
Just wanted to say you & your family are in my thoughts & prayers. I know what you are going through. My Mom suffered a stroke in May , We were told she had three days to live. However God had different plans & she is doing so much better but she just isn't the same. Mom's are such a gift. I know you don't know me that well, but I send you a big hug, because during these difficult times, we need one.

Rebecca, what a gift that is, to be given such sad news and then have it change like that! To get the opportunity to say the things we all so often regret not saying to our loved ones? Big hugs to you and your mother!

Meg, keep us informed here.

How kind of you to ask after her. Thank you. She has been home for a week now. Both my sister and a niece were there keeping an eye on her. She seems to be doing well. She had blood drawn twice to check for cumadin levels and everything checks out okay.

One good thing did happen. My mother has lived in this house for 25 years. I have been 'strongly suggesting' for 25 years that they re-model and re-plumb an alcove in the family room to create a closet where my mother can have a washer and dryer on the first floor. The steps to the basement are absolutely trecherous; they are dark, uneven, and because they are concrete, they can be slippery when there is any condensation. I have had nightmares about her tripping/slipping/tumbling down them and cracking her skull open.

Not only did I plant a little seed, I put enough 'fertilizer' on it, and it finally grew to fruition! The alcove is complete, although it still needs to be plumbed, but a new front-loading washer and dryer have been ordered, and very shortly I can quit worrying about her doing the laundry.

Good to hear, Meg! I'm glad someone finally listened! I love my main floor laundry, and I'm not your mom's age! Big Grin Now you have one less worry! Smile

Meg,

So glad to hear that your Mother is doing better! Cheer My Mom has trouble with her stairs, too, so I know how you feel. She's trying to get her house sold and move into a single-story house and I'll be SO glad when that happens!

Glad to hear she's okay!
