As most of you know, my hubby lost his job on June 30 due to the owners closing the research farm where he worked. While I wasn't deeply worried, I did have concerns about him finding another job because of his age (he'll be 58 in Sept. and while age discrimination is illegal, we all know it still happens).

We found out Monday that the dairy farmer who lives just west of us 1/4 mile had his hired hand quit. My hubby has worked for the dairy farm on and off during harvest etc. so it was basically a "shoo-in" for him! He took about a $4 per hour pay cut, but we'll still be OK with what he'll be making. And the "perks" are - he can walk, ride a bike, or ride the moped or ATV to work saving big bucks on gas, there are bonuses involved depending on the milk production, it's a healthy outdoor job with very little stress - and I've know Fred (the owner of the farm) since the day he was born. The family friendship goes back 3 or 4 generations. He starts next Monday.

When school starts in August I'm going to apply for a "sub" job in the cafeterias - won't be steady work - just whenever they need help they call. Last year they couldn't get people to sub. And with 3 elementary school, a middle school and a high school in the North Adams system, there should be plenty of opportunities. The nice thing is, you aren't committed to work - if you have other plans for a day and get called, you can turn it down. I figure I can make enough to put gas in the car and buy a few groceries - and it's usually only 4 or 5 hours a day.

So thanks to everyone who prayed for our situation! I love ya all!!!

Hugs,
Nola

Oh, Nola, I am so happy for the both of you! I have no doubt, but what a tremendous burden has been lifted from your shoulders! Do you feel 20 pounds lighter? LOL

Bummer about the cut in pay, but I do believe everything happens for a purpose. There is a reason Rod is supposed to take this job. Whatever it is, it will lead him to a better place.

Now we will have to save our pennies and get busy on a retreat for the spring!

Nola - so pleased your husband got the job at the dairy farm - the saving on gas to and from work will no doubt do something to compensate for the decrease in $/hour. Hope you get your 'sub' job Smile

Nola,
I am so happy for both of you. I have some understanding of what it is like going through it with my dad when I was in high school.

Nola ...

Smile Thanks be to God for answering all those prayers.

My DH has gone through some job changes and uncertainty over the years and we have always trusted that God will provide and we have always had our needs filled.

May all your needs continue to be cared for ...

That is great news Nola and while you were not overly worried, I know this will be a relief!

I've always said that when a door is closed God will open a better one. Who knows this might turn out to be a blessing. As for you being a Sub worker at the school lunchroom, it will be a good for a litle extra now and again. I know when my kids were in school I was the preferred Substitute Teacher for any class even though I was not qualified to teach! But I was there enough for them to know they could call me and I'd be there in 30 minutes!

Couldn't do it now but hey it was great while it lasted!
