Hello and Good Morning,

Thanks again for the warm welcomes from alll the locals of BC! NHGC = National Home Garden Club. We have cyber-lived there for years, but administration tried to revamp the boards back in mid Feb and somehow in the process they totally destroyed them. We had the same boards that you do (and we loved them), but what ever happened in their upgrading process turned the boards into a massive stalled out glitch for a majority of us. It was so sad! We tried keeping in touch via email but that was a disaster...lolol We were losing long time friends left and right due to their inability to navigate the “new and improved” boards.

I took up quilting about 2 years ago, and am always sniffing out quilt info/pictures etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to look at other people’s work and quilt projects in progress. There were a few quilters in the NHGC site too. We had an off topic area where all personal stuff was discussed. I had started a little quilting thread in there and a few of us chatted off and on and shared our project photos. Jeb makes beautiful quilts!! It was fun, but NOTHING like what you have in here!! I felt like I hit GOLD when I found this club! When I registered last week I realized you had the same boards we used to have. So...as soon as I spotted your off topic area I decided to make a thread for my cyber family. A few of the gals sew...and many of them are very crafty ladies/gents. They were admiring my quilt photos a lot...so... I KNOW a few of the gals are ready to take the plunge and try quilting. I keep telling them to TAKE a beginners class so they don’t get discouraged!!! That was the best thing I did...take a beginners class to learn what mistakes NOT to make. For a novice quilt maker I do well (in my opinion) because I didn’t have time to learn a bunch of bad habits. I took a 5 month long sampler class for beginners...and my quilt turned out perfect! No joke..in the final class ...my quilt measured PERFECT...lol Alllllll 6 measurements were spot on...lol I’m sure that was beginners luck, but I did pay VERY CLOSE attention to what a ¼ inch seam was!

Our group (which now chats in your "off topic" area) chatted every morning...for years and we had become like family to each other. Ups down...good and bad...we have shared it all with each other. Some of us have met in person at the Seattle Home and Garden show, and again at a big annual garden tour in So. WA. Ned (he’s in AK) actually joined us last year and we had a total blast. What laughs we had...and even tho’ we had never met each other face to face we were like old friends as we all met each other. It was really fun.

Native Girl
YOUR SEWING DENIM WITHOUT A SEWING MACHINE??? OUCHIE TO YOUR POOR FINGERS...lol You better go find a machine...lol My neighbor years ago made a beautiful quilt out of alllllllllllll of her father’s old coveralls. He was a farmer his entire life and for some reason his wife never tossed any of his old coveralls. What a TREASURE of a quilt it made!!! My friend even salvaged every pocket and hammer hanger (a little tab) and worked them into the queen sized quilt. It took second place in a huge fair in ID! She said she broke a hundred needles making that thing...lol Anyhow..it was something!! Wish I had a photo of it just for the detail work she added to it!

Jody..
Thank you for joining our chat this morning. It’s hard to keep up with a bunch of nuts you don’t know...lol We have not been in a live chat room in months! It was fun, and thanks for joining us!

Ohio Rose...
We gardeners tend to cross use words allllll the time...lol As in “sowing machine”...lol Made sense to me...lolol I have MANY MANY floral fabrics that I want to make into garden quilts. So... I guess you can call me a cross dresser (of sorts......lolol). I belong in both sites! Gardening AND quilting!

Hugs to allllllllll........

Poof*

Felicia and Native Girl-

We quilters have our share of cross-used words as well; such as "As ye sew, so shall ye rip." That's why I thought the post was so clever and funny! You will a number of quilters here who also garden, and all have a very healthy sense of humor. (Must be from all the fertilizer! LOL) I suspect there are good many quilter/gardners out there who also enjoy those little word plays!

BTW, I looked at the NHGC site last night. Is it open to anyone?

Hi all you friendly quilters!

I'm Sherry(Bear) and live in central New York. We are upto our chins in snow at the moment and will be looking forward to spring very soon now.

ohiorose..I thanked you in the NHGC thread for the info on my quilt. Wow! I never knew the name for that pattern. Again, thank you so much!
I've quilted in the past, many moons ago, when I started out with baby quilts for my sons. I made 2 for us and afew more for family. I haven't touched my sewing machine in 21 years!..LOL..I got it out not too long ago and the thing is froze up..LOL..well, I am too, my fingers don't want to work like they use to and my eyes aren't as focused or sharp anymore. So, I'll kick back and let y'all do the quilting and I can reap the benefits by looking at your creative work. You ladies do beautiful work, I may add! I love the quilt blocks ya'll have made!
The NHGC site is for anyone to look at but you have to be a member to reply. At least it used to be that way, it could have changed by now.
Have a great day..
Bear(Sherry)

HI Bear..!!

Hey now... my fangers are just as old as yours (and we are youngsters compared to some quilters I’ve met)! I do use 250 magnifying glasses when I'm at my sewing machine! Can’t see poopie without them. Funnier yet? Cinda wears two pairs of glasses when sewing..lolol NO JOKE! She puts #300’s on over her script glasses. It’s so funny to see her! Now...that’s determination! I know I’ve made lots of wise cracks about my mom’s old sewing machine (aka - the “Singer Antichrist”), but I’m sure there are some good Singers out there. My Bernina (I bought used), has been a little warrior on even the heaviest of fabrics! I am constantly lust hunting for a Singer Featherweight. They are supposed to be the cat’s MEOW for dragging around to classes. Small, and very accurate.

OhioRose..
Funny how we are ALL REALLY alike in many things. Love the "As you sew/rip" saying...lol I've done my share of that! I'd rather sew slow...then RIP out any day...lol I watched a TV program seamstress use her rotary cutter to rip out a seam the other day. Geezzz...talk about living dangerously!! I could barely watch her...lol

Ya know.... I think you’re right about anyone can read the threads on the NHGC boards, but in order to post you have to be a member...AND.. doesn’t that online membership come with the $20 magazine subscription? I can’t remember ...but I think that’s how it works? No ...yes? Maybe someone from the group will see this and speak up.

Oh.. I just got my first magazine from my “Quick Quilt” subscription...and the stuff looks fun and easy! I love the ideas!!!! It helps me a lot (being a novice) with fabric color choices too! Ya sure start looking at the world of color differently once you’re HOOKED!

Off to get busy...lol Hopefully...

Hi all,
I am one of those gardeners also. I am in Florida and want to thank all of you for putting up with all of us in here. We sooooo needed a new home for a while.
I was an electronics technician for years until a car accident taught me better. So, for the last 2.5 years I have been at home trying to recuperate. I now work from home on my computer and the phone. It is not what I am used to, but it is not too bad.
I am looking forward to meeting so many of you in time. I am thinking that our group is going to be calling me Wilma Flinstone for a while, but that will go away in time also.

Just wanted to say HI and thanks for the new home.

I am a gardener, I sew a bit with a needle and thread, but I poke myself so much, I give up. I do have a sewing machine... It is a Necchi. HOWEVER, I am unable to thread it correctly, so I use it for small problems. Snail
Oh well. Maybe someday I will find the actual manual on it, AND be able to buy it.
