I've been reading your forum here for a few weeks, and have finally decided to join.
My dh and I have 3 kids: 12yo boy (will be 13 next week), 9 yo girl, and 2yo boy (will be 3 in 2 wks).Whom we homeschool. We live on 3 acres in far northern California, a few hours north of Sacramento. We have some chickens, dogs and cats.
I taught myself how to quilt when my oldest son was in my belly. I perfer handquilting, with a hoop in my lap. Never got the hang of doing on the machine. But I piece on my old treadle machine. I love the sound of it, and the smooth rythem. I have quite a few tops laying in wait for the quilting part. Right now I'm working on a quilt for my oldest son. I'm in the quilting stage, have about 1/3 of it done. And have tons more ideas rattling around in my head. I love the watercolor quilts and am determined to make one, one day.
I also love to read and cook/bake. Recently my dh was diagnost with high BP and Cholesterol, so I've been enjoying my cooking challenge of making heart healthy meals.
Hope to get to know you all soon. Have a great day.
Welcome to the forum from Michigan, Dorian. Glad you decided to join our little family. There was a thread on here a while back with some heart friendly recipes. I'll see if I can find it, but Gerda, our resident librarian will probably beat me to the punch (she is much more comfortable with technology than I).
Dorian, welcome to Block Central! It's nice to have you here with us. This is a wonderful place to chat with friends. We learn from each other and share ourselves each and every day. We are all addicted to swaps and they are so much fun!
Please just jump in with both feet and check all our swaps out! I'm partial to the Pretty Kitty Swap mainly because I keep that Yahoo Group for Kim. Also, Made for Each Other Christmas Swap which I host! Come on and join up! Block Party Suprise(BPS-II) is a block of the month where we take turns choosing a block which we all make and post a photo at the end of the month. We keep these blocks. We learn new techniques together so check it out.
Check out the entire site because there is always something going on!

Welcome, Dorian, from rainy/sunny/hot/rainy/sunny/hot (get the picture? ) central Alberta (close to Edmonton.)I would be happiest if the temps stayed between 60 and 70F, but that's not possible. It's nice to hear that some still do things by hand. I haven't done that yet, would like to try some day - first, we have a house to finish building!!
HOpe you join in on the fun and goofiness here, and swaps are fun and addicting.

welcome Dorain from another California gal. I live in Orange County but love Northern Cal. My aunt lives just north of Sacramento and I am a Humboldt State grad
I am new to quilting but not to sewing. I haven't tried hand quilting yet but will
I have a treadle that I really would like to get in working order because I am sure I would love that sound too
