Jersey? Nebraska? I am not much good in geography, but aren't they in different parts of the country? LOL Welcome from a confused Michigander. The folks here are very warm and friendly. You have found a good spot to make home.

Welcome Jersey. I started here too and the ladies here have been very succesful at enabling my new addiction to quilting! Big Grin I could barely sew a straight line when I came in. Okay so maybe I still can't but that hasn't stopped me yet!

Thank You all for the warm welcome, I am glad to be here and really feel this is the place to ask questions.
I have been crocheting for at least 35 years, and made so many afghans, i wanted to start a whole new adventure.
Now the funny part, when I went to school I flunked Home Eck becauseI wouldn't/couldn't sew a straight line. Well now I can almost sew a straight line, so things are looking up. lol
I am working on an afghan for my grandson, so lets pray it comes out almost straight.
Thanks again for the welcome.

Ps the Jersey is because I was born and raised there. You can take Jersey out of the state, but you can't take Jersey out of the girl. haha

Jerseygirl, if you are worried about not being able to sew a straight line, do this:

take your quilting ruler, and line up the needle point with the 1/4" line, and lower the needle until it touches the ruler. Lower the presser foot to hold the ruler in place. Now, take a few layers of masking tape or a piece of moleskin, or even a section of a PostIt notepad, and lay that down beside and against the ruler's edge. Make sure it touches! Now, raise the needle and presser foot and remove the ruler. As long as that ridge of masking tape/whatever is on your machine, you can use that as a guide for a good and straight sewing line. Do make sure NOT to cover your bobbin case opening if yours is on top like mine is! YOu do not need anything longer than about 2-3" for this ridge.

PS I had a great-aunt (she passed away last year at 104) and several cousins in New Jersey!! I've been there a couple of times way back when I was a kid!
