My name is Erika and I am very much a beginning quilter. I took one class a few years ago and really enjoyed it but then started a new career and the machine went into the closet.
Well, here I am several years later dusting off the machine. I have a basic sewing machine and then a really nice Brother embroidering machine that I used once cuz it was too overwhelming for me to figure out.
I am married and while I dont have any kids my husband has 3 older children BUT I have two nieces aged 4 and 2 with another on the way, so I have GOT TO GET QUILTING!!
I am a 911, Police and Fire dispatcher for the City Palo Alto. *that was the new career that took up the past couple years* I work midnights so I dont quilt during the work week but during the weekend when my sleep schedule says I am normally awake while the rest of the world is asleep I am quilting or on the internet.
I look forward to having numerous questions....and my first question is what brought me here..

Hi Erika, and welcome from NE Indiana. I'm one of the "old gals" here on BC - both in age and years of quilting. I'm married with 2 kids, dau. married, son still at home, 2 grandgirls, 6 and 3. My son-in-law is a paramedic so I can understand your funky sleep schedule - when Seth is working his weird hours, my daughter does a lot of craft work as well as reading. Sometimes they don't see each other for 2 or 3 days at a time!
You'll enjoy BC - we have a lot of fun here, we laugh together, celebrate together, sometimes cry together - just like a big quilting bee!
Hope you'll join in some of our swaps - they're lots of fun, and a great way to make new friends!
Erika! Happy you decided to join us! Totally get the funky work schedule thing. My son is in the USCG- he works two-days on, two-days off. That is not a problem here- we are open 24-7.
Erika Welcome from Sweet Home Alabama you will find there are some awesome ladies here ready to droll over all your creations and help you if you hit a snag and even welcome suggestions and opinions from you too. We are mostly a very loving group who is very happy to be quilting 24/7 if possible but not always works that way!
Jump in join in whatever is happening around here we would love for you to be a part of us. We have a few open projects going on.
Have a blessed day
Happy Quilting! Bama Deb ~ Sweet Home AL I have always been interested in people who make me laugh!!! You can never have a dull moment with these people. And if you happen to have "one of those moments" then it's okay, they just laugh with you.
Hello, and here's another warm welcome from the UK...but it's coming from a former California girl...I grew up in San Jose and Redding, then I married and moved to NC...Now I'm remarried and living in Yorkshire...This is a great bunch of folks, I've learned so much, shared so many laughs and I know you will love it too.
Sit back, put your tired feet up (with your job they must be tired) and enjoy! Cheers, KimUK
