Announcing a new BC Fabric Swap!

The “Sweet 16 Sixteens Snowpeople Swap”

This is a no-sew swap!!

Nola has graciously agreed to be the Moderator Host for this swap and she and Betty have given me the go for this swap!

Thank you, Nola and Betty!

Requirements would be that each swapper would need to commit to sending at least 16 Sweet Sixteens to me to arrive no later October 15th. A "Sweet Sixteen" is a 9” by 11” cut of fabric. Fabric requirements are 100% cotton quality quilting fabrics ... no thin fabrics, please! All fabrics must be washed and pressed.

I would then send out to you at least 16 different Sweet Sixteens by November 1st.

Although the leaves here have not started to fall,
I am already planning my snuggly winter quilts so ...

SnowingThe theme for this swap is “Let It Snow!” Snowing

The background colors of each fabric should be

Snowing Blue and White Snowing

Scenes should be of ...
Snowman Snowpeople and Snowflakes Snowman

Since this is intended for quilts that may be used all winter, please do not include fabrics which are obviously Christmas or any other winter holiday themed. So if your snowmen are wearing red and green scarves, it is okay … but if they are decorating Christmas trees or standing next to Santa, please save this fabric for another project.

Here are my fabrics!!!!! ...

What is a Sweet Sixteen?

A “Sweet Sixteen" is 1/16th of a yard of fabric … or a 9” by 11” cut.

So, since you will be washing the fabrics and most fabric is not 44" wide excluding selvege edges, you will need at least 1 and 1/3 yard of fabric. Cut four 11” by WOF strips. Cut these strips in four 11” by 9” rectangles. If you are like me, you will probably want to buy a yard and a half and keep the extra fabric for yourself.

Do all of your 16’s have to be one fabric or may you use different fabrics or scraps from your stash? Scrappy is okay! As long as all fabrics meet the swap theme requirements, you may include different fabrics in one packet of Sixteen 16s. Just please be sure all fabric is washed, pressed, and cut in even 9” x 11” rectangles that include no selveges.

However, all swappers must commit to at sending at least 16 Sweet Sixteens to participate.

You may do more than one set of “16 Sweet Sixteens” if you want to receive more fabric to make a larger project, but each increase needs to be by 16 Sweet Sixteens!!

So, Swappers, you would be signing up for ~~~~>

ONE set of "16 Sweet Sixteens" (16 rectangles 9” by 11”) or TWO Sets "16 Sweet Sixteens” (32 rectangles 9” by 11”) or THREE sets “16 Sweet Sixteens” (48 rectangles 9” by 11”) and so on ...

All Swappers, please put each SET in its own separate plastic bag and mark it with your NAME and "Set One", etc ... I plan to use these same bags for your return sets.

You decide just how sweet a swap you want!

Each swapper must also send a large padded envelope with their return address and postage. International Swappers must send a self-addressed large padded envelope and I will let them know what the return postage is after I have it weighed at the post office. Betty has suggested that a gift certificate to an online quilt shop is a good way to pay for your return postage.

Here are the important dates to remember for this swap:

Signups will be accepted until September 30th.

All packets should be mailed to arrive to me by October 15th.

Return packets will be mailed by November 1st.

All swappers must post how many sets they want to swap here in this thread and must send the following contact information in a PM to Pat (Scrapatches) in order to participate:

Name:
Address:
Regular Email Address:
Telephone Number: (which would only be used for swap purposes and only if repeated attempts to contact you by PM and email failed)

The Moderators have set up an album and I am asking you all to post pictures of your fabric choices, so we can see all the pretty fabric and try to avoid duplicates.

Here is the swap album ...

If you have any questions please post here or contact me in a PM.

Okay, Swappers …. “Let It Snow, let it snow, let it snow …”

Sign ups ...

Please understand that due to the very specific nature of this theme that you MAY receive some duplicates with this swap. All those who are swapping only ONE set will be swapped first to try to be sure they are returned 16 DIFFERENT fabrics. Those who have signed up for 3, 4 or 5 sets WILL BE receiving some duplicates ... if your have any concerns, please PM me. Thanks!

I fell off the wagon big-time yesterday! But it wasn't snowmen fabric! Went to the LQS to drop off my daughter's Yellow Brick Road top to have quilted for her for Christmas. Spotted some Farmall tractor fabric on the shelf! You seldom see Farmall fabric - usually John Deere. My hubby has his Grandpa's old Farmall F-20 that he and our son restored, and we have my Dad's old Farmall H. So I'm thinking, "What could I make with that fabric?" Bev (the shop owner) says, "We have kits made up for a small quilt using that fabric!" - OH NO!!! Temptation in my path! But it will make a nice Christmas gift for hubby and he'll have his own little blankie for his afternoon naps!!! So I dug in to my Christmas fund and bought the kit!

Didn't find any blue and white snow people fabric tho', so guess I'll have to take a trip to Berne and check out their selection!

Hi, Vicky, welcome to the swap! Yippee!

Thank you for sending me your info. Smile

Presents should definately not count Big Grin ... so since I am making this quilt as a present that can be enjoyed all winter ... it does not count Big Grin... I like this line of thought ... Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Happy shopping ! Wink

Yes! There are many shades of blue that I have seen in snowpeople and snowflake prints .. some darker, some lighter, some with a bit of teal, some with a bit of frost ... I think all of these would make for a nice contrast. I hope all of you think so, too. Big Grin

I think it would also work if the background fabric is mostly white ... for snow! Snowing
