Either way you look at it, pumpkin is supposed to be in short supply this season. The fields were too wet from all the rain they've had for picking, so Libby's and other canners may not be able to meet demand. I am going to get whatever I'll need for the holidays tonight as there may not be any left on the shelves after Thanksgiving, and the shelves may not get re-stocked.

Personally, I think it's a terrorist plot. They couldn't destroy us with an overt attack on 9/11 so they are trying something far more insidious, like messin' with our pie. Razz Wink Roll Eyes What's that, you say? Conspirarist nut? Have I ever told you my theory of the grassy knoll? Razz Wink Roll Eyes What to talk alien abductions and Area 51? Razz Wink Roll Eyes

OH, NO, what would thanksgiving be without pumpkin pie? I'm with you, Denise... heading out today to grab some today. I'm making 4 pies. Two vegan pies and two regular ones. If I can't find enough pumpkin then there will only be the vegan pies. I have a butternut squash in the pantry and that makes great pie, I hear. But I'd rather have Libby's.. they make the BEST! yummmmmmm

Deb,

Sure I am about to show my ignorance, but what the heck, I've only appeared stupid once or twice already this week so I am way behind my quota. Isn't pumpkin pie already vegan? Are you eliminating the eggs and/or dairy? Then that begs the question, how do you make a pumpkin pie without them? I admit I don't know much about the vegan lifestyle, but that's one thing I am never stupid about. My natural curiosity and my willingness to learn. To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life forms and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before. Sorry. Got carried away. Well, I'm off the see what strange new life forms might be living in my refrigerator. Only my mission isn't exploration; it's search and destroy!

Meg! I for one would find your like to know about your conspiracy theories. As for pumpkin .... I was able to get 3 cans at my local grocery store. And not one of the big chains either. I love that Pumpkin Roll!

Martha! Pumpkin roll! Mmmmmmmmmm! My mother makes them, and they are to die for! She makes a couple for every pot-luck at my brother's work. He mentioned that they were planning a Christmas pot-luck, but she was scheduled to be here that week. When the rest of people at work found out, they canceled the pot-luck and re-scheduled it for the previous week! Now those are some good pumpkin rolls! Big Grin

Oh Candy ~ I havejust laughed out loud for ages. When someone here says they are going commando, it means that they are going out without underwear. So I have visions of you all camoflaged up, creeping to the neighbours, but 'sans drawers'. Thanx for the giggle, now I am going to have to explain to Mike why a quilt forum is so funny.

Pam, commando means the same thing here! And I laughed out loud too! When I first joined this forum, my dh couldn't figure out what I was doing either! But then he came in to the computer room and read some of what I was laughing at and now he understands! He loves to hear me laugh! And now he knows that there are other people out there that are just as crazy as me! And besides, laughing is GOOD for you!
