Gerda,
Artificial sweetners gives me a headache and my pulse speeds up.So I know what you mean.
Can you all use honey as a sweetner in place of sugar? What about applesauce? Just curious.

You're welcome DebO. That website has information about Splenda too, how it's made and such.

Good luck, holidays are sooo hard when you can't eat sweets!

I have heard it is made from real sugar but it still doesn't easy my mind now hubby is a different story he has used all of the different sweeteners over the years and does have a preference...BUT for me any of them send me into orbit..they just don't agree with my system for some reason. I have to becareful which products that I buy, didn't know to check the sugar in yogurt until a friend told me that was probably what I couldn't hadnle about some yogurts. My system seems to be so sensitive to these artifical sweeteners!

OIC about your body and the sugar substitutes Deb. I don't like them either, they just have an 'off' taste. But I've never tried Splenda.

Just curious if you tried using and sugar subs. and how your goodies turned out?

Ladies
I'am not a fan of any of the sub-sugars except splenda.
My bother is can not handle sugar and he loves the splenda.
I've made several things cookies, jams, breads and so on with the splenda. It took a bit of fancy work to get it right but in the long end it works very well for him

We did try the splenda during Thanksgiving and it is good. It works equakl sugar for equal amounts of splenda, BUT for our sweet potato pie we added sugar to taste and so we cut way back on the recommended amount of SPLENDA and the pie came out delish!!! I am not a sweet potato or pumpkin pie lover but I will have to ADMIT this sweet potato pie was delish!!!

Here is a recipe that a NONE-Diabetic should try:

APPLE DUMPLINGS

quartered granny smith apples
1 roll of cresent roll dough (pop & use type)
10oz. sprite
1 stick of butter

Wrap each apple quarter in the cresent roll dough triangle and place on a buttered baking dish. Add sprite and rest of butter to the dish, bake until golden.

This is to die for LOL!!! my daughter tried this recipe on Thanksgiving and it is sooooooooooo rich but I promise you --- you can't eat just one!!!

Potatoe chip cookies

Mix well and form in your hand and bake at 350 for 12-16 minutes. Depends on your oven. but they are golden brown around the edges.
