We made a few huge batches of spagetti sauce with our homegrown tomatoes. But the sauce has a sweet flavor to it, although I don't add sugar. I guess it's the type of tomatoes we use. But does anyone have a trick to make it taste less sweet?

Dorian-
When I am frosting cakes, I add a wee bit of salt to cut the sweetness, especially in frosting made with powdered sugar. Old baker's trick! That is, it is an old trick, not that the baker is old, thank you very much! lol Don't know if it would work with tomato sauce.

lol gerda!! yes, i suppose that hushpuppies are a southern delicacy, right debo?!! and not at all like a corn dog! hushpuppies are a little "nugget" of cornmeal and onions, etc., deep fried until golden brown
here's a link:
http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?acti...pe&recipe_id=1042013
my SIL can make some that literally melt in your mouth, but mine are pretty good too . . . fry up some catfish and fries, add a little slaw and you got yourself a mouth-watering treat!! i promise that if you come visit sometime, then i will treat you & bill to a catfish feast Big Grin i bet i can get debo to join us and betty too, to add a little cajun flavor to those puppies!!

corn nuggets are only somewhat similar to hushpuppies, just flour rather than cornmeal and no onions. the ones we get here with plate lunches etc. have a "creamed corn" insides and just a touch of sweetness. the recipe i found online makes something more kin to a hushpuppy with whole kernal corn added so i am experimenting with this recipe trying to come up with just the right combination for that creamy interior. when i reach that point, i will post my recipe!
