I just got my QP5 for Christmas and have been having fun working out a bow-tie quilt I am going making for my service organization's auction. I worked up the quilt with single and multiple borders, with blocks in a line and on point, different color combinations, etc. Had fun coming up with a pattern for a finished quilt. So far I am really enjoying it.

Seems most people on here use EQ, what can you tell me about QP in comparing the two? I've been trying to consider what I might want to purchase and the quilt shop owners around me have shed little light on the subject...

Jennifer -

I can't compare them, since I have only used QP. And I'm a newbie, cuz I just got it for Christmas. But I am having a blast designing/creating/changing patterns to make something just a little different. It is very easy and I love it.

I had asked a quilt shop owner if she knew anything about either program before I got it. She said she had them both, and that she thought QP was a bit more user friendly. Again, I haven't seen EQ, so can't compare them.

Hope this helps.

With QP you can scan in fabrics and download new fabrics from the website. I have scanned in some of my own already. Many of the ones I have were already in the database of fabrics.

I've changed some of my digital photos to files that QP accepts and put them on quilt labels. You can add photos to blocks, too.

When I was checking, I found QP to be a bit cheaper than EQ. They also have some helpful hints and short video segments to help with some of the topics. I have found the Help screen to be very helpful.

I often can find myself sitting down to make one block and ending up making 3 or 4. And designing quilts is fun and easy, too.

I enjoy working with QP.

I have Quilt Pro 5 and like it very much. I've tried Electric Quilt at a store and find that I prefer QP. Could be that I'm just more used to it.

I get prompt replies to phone calls asking for help, also email is answered in a pretty timely manner.

I just set up a quilt on point, with borders and sashing and it is a sampler. I find the more I use it the more I learn about it.

QP has tons of fabrics, yes, you can add your own by scanning it although I have not yet done that. If find there are enough fabric samples to give me a really good idea of what my quilt will look like. And there are numerous color choices if one prefers solid colors. All one has to do is to pick the pallet one wishes to use.

So, since the price is a bit less, I happen to find it user friendly (haven't cracked the book yet!) and enjoy making up my own blocks, then I vote for Quilt Pro.

One last note. I first got QP years ago at a quilt show in Dallas and promptly lost the disc. When I called them they very kindly replaced the disc if I faxed or emailed them a scan of the manual. How many companies would do that for you?

Eeuuuwww -- deja vu -- I've done this before!

I have just joined you lovely people and have been reading the Quilt Pro section. I read everyone's letters with interest as I have QP5 and also EQ5. I have to admit that I don't use them every day, but have probably used EQ5 the most. One thing I would like to add to the discussion is that the support you get from EQ5 is much better than QP5. I am a member of the info.eq@lyris.planetpatchwork.com list and any questions any of the members have are answered immediately. The Electric Quilt people are obviously reading all the queries and are always there to help. So, I guess I'd vote for EQ.

Thanks for the welcome Pam. I think I am more of a stiff legged variety than a num-bum. EQ5 users are all very excited at the moment because EQ6 will be released towards the end of November. It looks wonderful and has many improvements. I have to admit that I have got my order in and am waiting impatiently.

Hi Chi3165 -

I agree - the email and phone support of QP is fantabulous! I have had numerous questions with how to do something and their support staffis always very prompt and helpful with their responses.

I bought EQ5, too, when I found a good sale, but I still like QP5 better - for me, anyway.

And yes, by BUM IS NUMB! Comes with the quilting territory! LOL
