I've created a new section of our Forum for users of Quilt-Pro quilt design software to discuss the program. If you have questions or answers, be sure to post them here.

Thanks, Kim, for adding this Forum Topic. I just received Quilt-Pro 5 from my husband for Christmas and am anxious to get started using it. If anyone has any tips for me and other QP users, please let me know. I am putting the new BOM for January into QP5 so I can play with the colors myself. If anyone is interested, please let me know. As I said, I'm new at this, so any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks for doing this Kim. I do have a question. I know that EQ5 is known as the Cadillac of software. How does Quilt-Pro stack up against EQ5? I have been wanting to get software but am not sure what to get. Any information on either program will be very helpful.
Hello Doris MIlica has Quilp Pro and I had EQ5. Since she has played with EQ5 she went out and bought that too, it is far more user friendly and you need less computer knowledge to make everyting work. EQ5 has built in videos, and if you are not sure how to do something you can watch it on the computer screen and then do it for yourself, QP needs you to find the manual and read it through that way, but this may be your preferred option in which case EQ5 does have books as well. Milica bought me one of the advanced books at a quilt fair, it is gorgeous but so far I have not played fully with the book. In EQ5 you can scan in your own fabrics to see what a quilt will ACTUALLY look like, don't know if this possible in QP5. There are updates monthly from the EQ site and you can add fabrics from the electronic stash. As you must know changing fabrics can completely change the look of a quilt and these fabrics are from manufacturers whose stuff is available in shops now, I do know this is available for QP also, but not on such a regular basis. Read back a few months (if still available) as we had this discussion previously on the forum. I am sur Kim will help if you struggle

Hello, Doris and Pam - I was told by several quilters in my area who had worked with both programs that QP was more user friendly than EQ. I don't know this for sure because I have never used EQ. In QP, fabrics can be scanned into the fabric libraries from your own stash OR downloaded from Quilt-Pro.com, where fabric collections are updated as new fabrics become available. QP accepts fabrics in BMP or JPG file formats. I found it very easy to make a new block in QP. I just got the QP software, so am still learning myself. I am enjoying working with it. Linda O. Texas

Sounds like the ease of use is "in the eye of the beholder" so to speak. Is there any difference in price between the two? I know what the price of EQ5 is both on the web and on Ebay, but haven't checked out QP yet. I have been wanting software for a couple of years now, but something keeps holding me back from the purchase.

Another question...do you really use it as much as you thought you would?

I've had QP for a while now and have never used it. Maybe one of these days I will spend a few hours playing with it.
I often play with EQ5 for a whole evening, and use it to work out the size of strips/squares to cut. Used it 2 days ago to work out necassary size to cut to make a 7.5inch square in a sqare block, now all sewn and ready to quilt tomorrow. I would previously have stressed about getting the size right, measured diagonals etc. but with EQ5 just came up here, got the block from the built in library, told it what size, printed the rotary cutting guide, and went downstairs again to start cutting fabric. No stress at all. Perfect

That sounds so totally awesome. I'm think I'm going to save my pennies and get EQ5 for myself as a present. I'll think of a reason later. It would be so cool to just sit down and design, design, design before having to cut a piece of fabric! Thanks for all the info. You've been a big help!
