Do any of you have any ideas on how to clean the light metal part on the old Singers. I got this 1941 version for my mom and would like to get it all shiny. I've already fond the source for parts.

I would start with something not too abrasive, like baking soda, and a damp soft cloth.

Kat-
If it is the chrome pieces, use a good chrome polish like you would use on the car. I think that baking soda on the chrome could scratch it. For the main body (black part), you can use a product called "Tuff Stuff". It is a spray foam cleaner. Spray it on and wipe it off with a soft towel. If you want you can wax it with a clear boot polish (no abrasives in it) for a final shine. I got that info from Graham Forsdyke's 221 site. This is how he cleans up the old Singer Featherweights. It worked great on my Featherweight. This is his site: http://www.singer-featherweight.com/index.html Jami |

This is a wonderful site for our old treasures. It has many pages to help you clean and fix up your treadle.
