Hi ladies, The turkey call is easy, go to www.highlites.com and put in turkey sounds in the search bar. Remember Highlights from school? Same folks!

Dressing/stuffing. I was never a fan of it till I had my MIL's. Cornbread based...yummy! When they divorced and he remarried, he asked his new wife to get Kim's dressing recipe (knowing it was "The EX's") because she wouldn't make it if she knew the origin. LOL! I never told her.

Oh and I wish I knew a recipe for those brown n serve rolls that come half cooked during the holidays. Dinner just isn't the same without them! My homemade ones just aren't as good.

I'm hungry now. My mixer gave up the ghost and after much persuading (moaning/groaning and dramatics) DH is getting me one tomorrow. A small hand mixer on a stand (not the kitchenaid I've always wanted, but better than trying to make a red velvet cake by hand). So, I'm a happy girl!

Ya'll have fun today.

I am sweating out what will happen necxt week. We have plans to go to Frankfort and visit DH and DDIL. However, it sounds as though we may get hit with the first big storm of the season. (I will expect Debbie Bell and Julia to show up bright and early to shovel snow! LOL I read the other thread about your penchant for the white stuff!)

We have also been invited to DSIL's, but not sure we will make it there either.

Wherever we go, I will make walnut pie and the cranberry relish. My mother used to make the classic cranberry and orange. I usually alternate between the recipe from the now defunct Bill Knapp's (slightly cooked cranberries and apples, cooled, and celery and walnuts added) and Zender's Restaurant in Frankenmuth. Both are yummy.

Is anyone familiar with this recipe I came across it on another forum. It sounds interesting anyway...I am curious if I can substitute the sweeters in this one and give it a try for Thanksgiving?

APPLES / CRANBERRIES & YAMS

4 cups fresh yams, sliced thin and peeled
3 cups peeled apples (Granny Smith)
1 cup fresh cranberries
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 stick of butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Toss sugars and spices, add apples. Take 1/2 yams, place in disposable
lasagna baking tin with high sides. Put in half of apple mixture and
half of cranberries. Cut half of butter in slices, layer on top. Repeat.

Bake in 350 degree oven for about an hour or until tender. You may also
put walnuts or pecans on top before baking.

I make the following small changes:
I use Craisins in place of fresh cranberries. I use only 1/2 stick of
butter. I bake in a pottery casserole. Everyone LOVES this recipe.

This recipe is good with chicken, turkey and pork. I've also served it at brunch with egg and sausage dishes.

Happy Quilting!

I have always been interested in people who make me laugh!!! You can never have a dull moment with these people. And if you happen to have "one of those moments" then it's okay, they just laugh with you.
