OH, and I always mix a box of baking soda in with my dishwashing detergent (powder). I use a bucket from detergent bought long ago (this way if the sink leaks, the detergent doesn't get ruined)...I pour the box of detergent & box of baking soda, mix well. It stretches the det a bit longer and the soda is a great cleanser

Geoff saves all his cotton boxers and Tshirts to use as polishing cloths for cleaning the cars. I save all his shirts and now have a large enough bag of shirts now to make a quilt for James.

Oh Milica! You must get a few pieces from those boxers to put in James' quilt!
And I can just picture the neighbors stopping to chat with Geoff while he is out there cleaning the car with his underwear! ![]() Jenell (aka) Miss Cashew O'Nutt http://www.myquiltblog.com/billswife/ http://www.serialquilters.com/afroginthequilt/ |

This is really an interesting and fun thread. I remember always diluting the shampoo half and half with water for my teens. It didn't matter if it was full strength or diluted, they used the same amount and they never complained as they never saw me do it.
As for dryer sheets, when I used them, I took them out of the dryer and put them in a plastic bag I had hanging nearby. Then, I reused them in the dryer. They can be reused a couple of times alone and then you can put two in together. After that, I tossed them into the linen closet to keep the towels and sheets smelling fresh. They are also good for stuffing in stinky sneakers. Does anyone still cut off the buttons from old clothes that they turn into rags? I remember my mom and grandmother doing that. I did it for a few years but I haven't had to dig in and find a shirt button in a very long time so I stopped it. I have two coffee cans full of buttons so I'm ok for now. I use the tops from cottage cheese and sour cream containers to put under my green plants and flowers in the house to protect the table tops. I'm really enjoying reading everyone else's tips.
