Ok ladies Now there was a topic of a quilt retreat up in upper Michigan. I can remember where i saw it but I have a couple people that want to go. The problem is i dont remember where it is and what time... Hope someone can help me with this... I will be sure to book mark it this time. Julia

I really want to go to the retreat in Texas. It is reasonably priced and I loved the idea of the group developing its own itinerary. I am not sure I can afford the cost of a plane ticket though. Plus I thought driving had the advantage of being able to transport sewing machines. Unfortunately I have not found anyone to make the trip with me, and I am no longer adventurous enough to go that far by myself.
It seemed that some other people might be in the same boat. Curious as to what there might be closer to home (anywhere in the Great Lakes region), did some research one evening and was amazed at the number of retreats I found in Michigan alone. Not wanting to detract from the enthusiasm generated by the Texas retreat, thought it would be better to send out some feelers to see if there were truely interest in another regional retreat.
There was quite a bit of discussion last year about planning regional retreats and meeting every two or three years at a different national show. Now that some folks are talking about meeting in Nashville in 2009, maybe that idea is coming to fruitition.
Seems to me that there should be a New England retreat, a Mid-Atlantic retreat, A Pacific Northwest retreat, and a Plains States retreat. Did I miss anybody? Not to be in competition with each other, a person certainly wouldn't be limited to her (or his) region, but to maximize the opportunities for members to have fun and get to know one another.
How about an English retreat? You gals are getting quite a few members there lately. Or an Australian retreat? If you gals in Canada are too spread out, do it by province, or come to one in the states.
Now that Connie and Jess, busy ladies that they are with all their other many new endevors (where do they get the energy?), have graciously taken on a retreat as well and got the ball rolling, let's see where the idea takes us.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, so to speak, there does appear to be interest in one of the Hillman retreats a year from this October. The owners have not finalized the program for either session yet, so I don't think they have even begun to take reservations yet. Here is the link for anyone who is interested.
Hope everyone sees this in the spirit it was offered. As an opportunity to include as many as possible in as much fun as possible. If I can figure out a way to get to Texas and there is still a spot available, I sure would like to go. Hoping my spot won't be outside in the doghouse. That would be par for the course. It's been a bad week here, keep hoping my luck will change.
I am interested in a fall retreat also. I just can't make it to the spring retreat due to Hubby and I going to Vegas in the Spring. I don't think I can get time off or have the money for two trips in one season.
I love the prospect of the retreats in Hillman. They look so nice! I am game for a fall retreat in Michigan if their are enough people interested. I know I can save the money up, and I can use that as a birthday/Christmas '08 gift. Therefore, costing much less to my pocketbook.
So, Meg, whenever something is decided for fall '08 let me know. I can use my Christmas money as the deposit. I'm just not sure how to book so that a group gets put all together?
Right now, I am trying to save all my extra money for hubby's Christmas present. I'm planning on buy ing a new home theatre system for him. He will be super suprised!!
A new home theatre system? Maybe we should all come to your house and watch reruns of Simply Quilts????? LOL I'll bring the popcorn!
That's a good question on how to book a group for housing purposes. I was wondering the same thing when I looked at the reservation form. Maybe I will just give them a quick call.
We need one of those maps of the the US so we can all put a pin in our location. It would make it easier to sort out who is where and how far. Any body seen one of these? I think I saw one on myspace once that visitors could mark. I am all for going to a quilt retreat! The Houston area is just a long ways for me. I wouldn't mind going to Dallas if I had someone to hold my hand in that crazy traffic! I hear Houston is even worse! Okay, now my cat is out of the bag. Hello, my name is Jenell and I'm afraid to drive in heavy traffic. I also tend to get lost. LOL

jenell, i have to hold up my hand with you!! but i am hoping that my personal GPS (billy the 18-wheeler owner/operator!! ) will know a route to take me in "the back door" without having to do too much of the houston traffic thing!! lol he knows his wife all too well when it comes to driving in unfamiliar places . . .

Julia, I am most definitely interested as long as it is for the later part of 2008. October is the best time for me. I don't know the email address. So, I'll just let you know here.
Are we still interested in Fall '08?
Meg, just come on over and bring everyone...we can watch Simply Quilts 'til we drop...LOL!
I'm with you ladies on the traffic thing. That's why I don't venture out into the city (Miami) on my own.
I called the retreat in Hillman. The programs for October 2008 should be finalized by the end of the month. Then we can decide which one of the three sessions we want to go to. They have NOT started taking reservations yet, so we are in good shape.
