All of you are always so helpful.... I've got a question? Do any of you use satellite internet? I'm getting ready to head back to my cabin and it's so far back in the woods there is no cell phone signal and no DSL. I can't deal with dial-up so satellite is the only other choice. If any of you have any experience with satellite, do you have any tips or concerns that I need to be aware of? I don't know anyone to ask.
Jean, I live in the mountains in CA so we don't get cell phone signals unless we stand in the driveway lol. So for our computers & television, we use a provider that uses satellite. We love it & don't have any problems. Only time we loose connection is when there is a bad storm or snow on the dish. Hope this helps with your questions. Rebecca P

Thanks Rebecca. That information helps. We do use satellite for TV already but couldn't use my computer last summer. I don't want to go without it this summer so I'm willing to pay the price for satellite internet if it works well. How about the speed? It's not as slow as dial-up is it?
Jean D-Do a bunch of shopping around,as there are a lot of satellite internet providers out there.Starband and Hughesnet are but two.Just do a search for satellite internet and research 3 or 4 companies that have coverage to your area.
These are the top 3 listed in order of popularity.Check each one for dealers/installers in your area, types of hookups and prices, both for equipment, installation & monthly charge.
Thanks Ned, You have been so helpful. Since I'm going to be leaving in a couple of weeks, I'll check these out in the next day or two. I only spend 2-3 months up there and so I'll have to check that I don't have to pay year round or be able to move the dish.
Thanks again..... I can always count on someone to come to my side when I need to find some answers.
