I have only thread basted and don't like it at all!!! But lately I am having some one else machine quilt for me and she doesn't require it to be basted. I can only hand quilt so fast, but she does basting too! So I will probably let her do that for me on my next hand quilting project. I am going to have to learn pin basting soon though. I got to see Joey on a web cam today and he looks wonderful! I was so excited. His mom had to miss it because she is still without power. Thank you all for your warm wishes for him. Those kids don't know how many people are praying for them but I know it is working! This is his second time around and I really hope he doesn't have to go again. 3 times would be pushing it! It's so good to see us all here! It was looking like a ghost town. lol Jenell (aka) Miss Cashew O'Nutt The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him [who revere and worship Him with awe] and each of them He delivers. I usually pin baste for machine quilting, but occassionally, if I think it will be awhile, I'll hand baste so my safety pins aren't all tied up. i like hand basting for hand quilting, as it is easier to move the hoop around. I use the #2 curved pins, rather than the smaller #1. They are much easier to use, and my hands usually don't get sore. I try to pin baste every palm width or so. I only had problems once with the basting thread getting caught in my free motion foot. I learned to remove the basting from the area I was working in to keep it from happening, especially if I am using monofiliment or metalic thread which is more finnicky to work with.

I usually pin baste. I did originally thread baste, but I machine quilt and I DID have the bobbin thread catch and pull the basting thread and it was a mess. I had to remove the basting threads as I went after that on the rest of the quilt. After that exprience, I learned to pin baste and I use the handwidth method of spacing them. I do not have the curved pins, as I am using what I have already had on hand ... but I am planning to try these. They look so much easier to use. I do have one project that I have thread basted as I am planning to try hand-quilting. I think this will be very slow going for me as my hands ache after a relatively short period of hand-work. I have some stiffness in my hands and wrists. Good Morning, Everyone! Well...I didnt get as much done as I planned last night. DD came home from student teaching and wanted to chat and eat and bake cookies... Finished piecing the back. Im am going to try the thread basting but I'll cut and pull the basting threads as I go so I dont end up with a mess on the bottom. I have my quilters meeting this morning and am thinking of bringing my stuff there... getting the basting done on the HUGE floor of that room. Soooo...time for coffee And some of those wonderful oatmeal/raisin/chocolate chip cookies.... We're having a very cool but pretty day here...perfect fall sewing weather. Grandma has to go in again for more testing today and tomorrow...she hasnt been herself and we're trying to find the problem. Guess I better go shower and eat. Thank you all for the tips on basting... Pat-do you ever try Aleve? In damp weather, I usually take one or two a day for pain. It takes a few hours to work but once it kicks in, its great!

Hi all, I machine quilt, so I use quilt basting spray & then pin bast. It works very well for me with no puckers or shifting. What a stressful week this started out to be. Tuesday morning my cat Warwick, was having trouble sitting & moving. Then she started crying in pain. (a mother knows) Well I got the cat carrier out & had to put her in by myself which is such a struggle. Got her in then because Gregg decided to take my car that day I had to drive his BIG Toyota. I have to use a footstool with a string attached so I can pull it into the truck to be able to get in again when I reach my destination. I'm sure it looks quite comical. Well, after ex-rays & examinations, turns out my fury baby is just old. She has arthritis. Well the news was such a relief. I just have to give her medicine three times a week. Think I will get her a heating pad, I know it helps me. I had a nice time at a quilt class yesterday. It got my mind of of worrying. Hope you all have a good day, thanks for listening Rebecca P

The little birdie posted on the wrong good morning thread. I'm sure she will fly in again soon and welcome our new Nut cousin! I thought the last thread was supposed to be deleted?
