OK... WHAT A WEEK... Im so glad it's over! Im worn out. Thanks for all the basting help... I started thread basting ...changed to pin basting ...started machine quilting ...changed to hand quilting ... had to take out the pins... put in more thread basting ... SOOOO ... Now, as it stands at this moment... I am hand quilting the center of the quilt because the design I picked out was just too hard to machine quilt and look neat. Can I get it done in time .. I'D BETTER! Am I nuts? YESSSSS... The main question is .. can I handquilt the center and machine quilt the border without it looking weird? Does anyone ever mix these or am I going to have to hand quilt the whole thing? ..and not sleep until after the party ... Grandma has been pretty sick this week and I've been running back and forth to the doc and hospital for testing. Plus, DH is working on the rec room for the big party... painting, adding woodwork ..etc. Carpet is coming in a few weeks for the room. I need somewhere to put all 40 or 50 relatives that will be here for the big bash! Been canning the tomatoes that are still ripening out in the garden... Been baking and cooking and have a ton more to do... Plus been going to quilt class and helping out another group here in town that does a charity benifit the week before Grandmas party... Hair is coming out ...yes... And still, I'm loving it... I thrive on madness... but maybe thats the madness talking

And I thought I had a lot on my plate, Northern Deb, you go girl! I have never mixed hand quilting and machine quilting. maybe someone else can put in their two cents worth. When in October is the party? If time gets tight, you might run a set of stitches on either side of your vine to hold it together for the party, and then if you feel it needs more quilting you could add additional echo quilting afterwards. (Just an idea)

Good Morning ... Another sunny one here ... but fall is in the air ... leaves are just starting to turn ... soon it will be the season of the rake ... Deb ... you sound very busy ... I hope your Grandma is feeling better ... you can only do what you can do when it comes to the quilt for her ... machine quilt it, hand quilt it, do both ... she will love it since you made it for her ... {{{hugs}}} Jenell ... still peeling paper? You will soom be done and on to the next project ... Denise ... that Portland Quilt Show you will be white gloving at looks wonderful!!! Wish I was close enough to visit ... ... of course I just attended a big quilt show, but I am always ready for more beautiful quilts .. and a walk-around the vendors to find the good deals and new goodies ... Have a lovely quilty day, everyone ... Jenell, when you stitched your blocks, what kind of paper did use? Did you use a size 90 (14) needle? Did you shorten your stitch length? The few paper pieced quilts I did, I learned that the shorter the stitch, the larger the needle, and the thinner the paper, the easier it is to tear. I also use a garden glove that is rubber on the palm and fingers. It helps to grab the paper. Just some pointers for the next project. I also do some of the tearing as I go, so that I don't have to do it all at the end. The one advantage to paper piecing is that the blocks are so accurate.
