oH mY Goodness Ladies I am so in ahhhh...here I have been a stranger on these boards and I posted/vented a problem I am currently going through and you all responsed like we are all old friends....THANK-YOU aren't enough words.
I reread & reread each of your messages and taking each one to heart. Its very comforting to know I am not just being picky or selfish-thank-you not making feel that way.
Tata thanks so much, part of my situation is right now I am just in the beginning stages of getting back on my feet from a abusive relationship [mental not phyical-not thats better] and $ wise I was totally unprepared for moving out on my own-I have always been a very strong independant lady so that in itself has been hard.Summlin just happens to be the area I am looking to move when I can afford it.
Being a empty nester I really missed having kids around-be careful what you wish for or be more detailed in your prayers..lol. Yes the lil boy is 3 and ADD & ADHA and I know because my oldest had these problems, the fact the mom won't see it doesn't help because helping them eater better or at least be on some sort of routine falls to deaf ears.
Yes Lizzie communication is the key to any relationship but when the other party just doesn't want to hear it or gets defensive its hard.
Cindy several yrs ago I was in your shoes...I gave myself a nerve break down pretty much for all the reasons you stated. Yes I had to learn better approachs and to take care of myself.
Ladies I am so appreciative for your williness to share your situations w/ me-it does help alot-ALOT more then I can express...can't say I won't need to vent again but I will try to keep it to a min.
god bless you all

Dee-

Might sound like I am changing the topic, but bear with me. This is the issue I have with the quilting community and copyright laws. I think it has had the effect of isolating quilters to an extent instead of preserving that community of sharing. And the sharing wasn't only quilt patterns.

That is why I love this forum so much. This group of ladies and gents are like a 24/7 19th century quilting bee in a 21st century setting.
Besides sharing patterns, fabric sources, recipes, garden tips, and advice on child rearing, we also share laughter and tears. You are never alone if you have access to a computer.

I have always been interested in people who make me laugh!!! You can never have a dull moment with these people. And if you happen to have "one of those moments" then it's okay, they just laugh with you.

All my life I've lived in multi-generational families - as a child, my mother's two sisters lived with us - and they were a godsend for my mother and they really helped around the house. When my brother was a teenager he brought a school friend home who just sort of became one of our family over the weekend - he used to call my mother 'Ma'.

In later years, my children also got to experience multi-generational living as my father-in-law came to live with us after my mother-in-law died. That was a difficult one as he was an alcoholic and a heavy smoker. We learnt to be firm and eventually we were able to control both. Neither of my children abuse alcohol - they learnt the negatives having him in the house. We also had my mother stay with us 6-8 months a year. That also had its difficult times as she grew old and frail but we can all look back and laugh at the good times we all had. When she came to stay, she always wanted a 'job' that was hers - in the early years it was to make coffee for the family after our evening meal - just something to show that she was still useful. In later years I let her roll the socks when the washing came in.

At odd times during my marriage we have various members of the family relocate to Johannesburg from the coast and our home served as 'half-way house' until they got jobs and their own place to stay - some for two or three weeks, some for longer. My children have enjoyed the 'visitors'and really learnt to mix with all age groups.

Neither my son or daughter are married - yet - and both stay at home (I've been widowed for 13 years) and we all get on well - they contribute to the running of the home and aren't restricted other than to let me know if they're going to be out for dinner. When they want company it's available - it's their choice. It works for us and quite honestly why have three homes when we all get on with one another in one. They are both very supportive of my sewing.

The crux of the matter is that it can work and can be good.

Mary

Good morning...very windy sunny day....hmm perfect day to hide in my rm and get started on those baby quilts....baby shower is 10/20,,,good thing I work well under pressure and 3 of the 5 quilts are very simple.
Deb,Mary and so many others...what would I do w/o my quilting buds to vent to. Each one of you have shared your experiences & great advise. I do now realize part of the problem is I am very much used to having my own house and not living w/ small kids. So yes alot of it is readustment and learning not to take everything so personal-but thats my nature-to try & keep everyone happy-I am working on that..lol
Coffee now who would like to join me for that second cup before the jungle here gets moving?
have a great day my buds.
