ok I need some professional advice. I'm on the fence about the fabric choices I made here. I'm only halfway through piecing this so I wanted some opinions before I finished, so my apologies for it looking sorta strange. I've only pieced all the HST and the center points together, which is why the mock up is off a bit. Yes? No? Keep trying? First is fabric choices, second is mock up of January Block.

Your block is marvelous!

I love your main fabric that you are pulling your other fabulous fabric colors from. All your fabrics choices are great.

The only thing I might add would be the rust color as a fabric choice but I havn't looked at the pattern that close so you made not have room for another color choice to make them all blend in. It is going to be a beautiful quilt! Thanks for share with us.

BTW Where did you get those gorgeous fabrics I would love to purchase me a few in those fabrics. That little white flower in the main fabric just pops when you look at it!

Happy Quilting!

Jenn, lovely choices there! Are you planning to use the focus fabric with the scenes for your outer border? I'm just thinking that you may lose much of the impact using it in a block, but it does give a hint of the Orient. Hmmm, I'm not much help, am I? Big Grin OK, I say keep on with it, unless you really don't like it.

Oh, I know, if you can, make a colour copy of each of your fabrics, cut out triangles etc and play with the paper pieces before you cut into your gorgeous fabrics.

What does Zach think? and it's so good to see you posting again! Hope all is well!! Hugs, Jenn!!

I had the same thought about the rust colored fabric but I just could not find one that was the right shade. Everything I came across was too red or too orange. I've only got 5 fabrics in total. That would have been my 6th if I could find one.

and yes, I plan to use the asian fabric as the large border to feature it a bit. That was where I started when I chose fabric. I just loved that one the moment I saw it, so it was built around that one.

Zach doesn't particularly care for the color scheme, but he's not very into bold color choices. He likes the more subdued, traditional looking quilts. haha I think he was scared to tell me he didn't like it...about an hour later he came and asked me if I was upset by it...I told him he wasn't required to like everything I make...I'd rather he be honest. Besides....he's still learning about all this crafty stuff Wink

OK just read Deb's post - good point about the rust! Use the rust in place of the scenic, maybe? and keep the scenic for the border?

OK< I'll hush now! Other great minds will be along!! Smile

I'm b-a-a-ck! Big Grin You might be able to use a fussy cut piece now and then in the centre of some blocks, do you think? That would tie it into the border nicely.

Oh, bummer!!! Have you seen any solids in the stores? Amish type fabrics. I know buying online is tricky - colours are not always exact.

I'm gone!!! Big Grin

yeah i was gonna try for a solid, as the other prints are pretty busy, but I just couldn't get the right shade. I thought it would be a great contrast color.

I'm contemplating re-working the center of this block so the asian print is the center square with black points and the gold on the outer corners where it is currently asian fabrics.

Very bold and dramatic! It's going to be a very eyecatching quilt. I do like the idea of using the print as the center block. Can't wait to see your alternate mock up.

I agree with the very bold and dramatic comment ... I like it!

I also agree with the the idea of fussy cutting the asian print for some center blocks ... it is what I thought imediately when I saw the fabric and before I read the comments.

With a fussy cut building in the center and the scraps showing just the colors from this print in the triangles, I think it would look amazing ... and maybe even better than introducing another fabric ... I think "simplicity" added to a dramatic focus fabric such as this is a good way to go ...

just my 2 pennies ...

I am very much looking forward to seeing more of this quilt, Jenn!

Smile Pat
