Gerda, I got your email thank you so much. You are super fast girl. This is one BOM that I really want to do I love this quilt. Now I just have to get past my fear of hand applique. Beth sure makes it looks really easy in her how to hand applique video. I think I can, I think I can....

One tip, if I may - I find sequin pins (about 3/4" long), if you have them, and putting them in from the BACK, makes a huge difference! Thread basting works, too. just take your time, and you will really enjoy it once you get the hang of it. I need to get back to the projects I have going - one was a guild round robin (we got the "recipe" each month for that go-round, and did all the work ourselves on our own tops). I would really like to finish that one!
Go for it, GF!

Gerda I have never done an applique on this big of a background. I am not fond of her instrustion on machine applique`. I don't see anyway to do the back in pieces. I have started drawing the freezer paper pieces. Any suggestions on proceding other then holding my breath?????
Marie, have you sewn all your blocks together yet? If not, you can applique each section, except for the parts that will overlap a seam. That would leave small sections, that shouldn't be too hard. Do you see what I mean? if you look at the last set of instructions where she tells how to sew each section to each other, you'll see what I mean. I hope this isn't clear as mud! I agree about appliqueing a huge top, and also about machine applique - I'm too old fashioned for that method! Just don't care for it!
I'm sorry, I have to go, but I'll be back tonight. I need to meet someone in town, and it'll take me 35 minutes just to get to town. Give it a whirl, hon!
PS If memory serves, Pat sloan does that - stitch part of the applique on and waits until the top is totally pieced, then stitches the rest of the way.

Wow Gerda those are small. My hands or big and I don't seem to hav the dexterity I use to I might have a hard time handling them (will check it out though).
I have just started really reading her instructions and I am unclear on how to cut out the flower appliques. Has anyone done those yet?
I agree with Marie it seems like it is going to be harder to apply the appliques at the end. I just assumed before reading you would be doing blocks of appliques and pieced blocks.individually than putting it all together. YIKES this is scary for a beginner

Gerda the center is together and all side blocks are together. I do see what you mean, I need to seperate some of the arrangments and applique` what I can then assemble the top and put the pieces that go over seams. Wendy I didn't have any problem down loading the last step. I have with things in the past and just go to another computer or to my husbands login and then have no problem.
Miki, if you are not in too much of a hurry, I can send you a few to try - get them in the mailbox Monday. Be on the lookout!
Marie, yes, that is what I meant. I'd say go for it - unsewing is no fun, though quick, especially when you break every fourth stitch, and pull on the backside thread! I think it will be worth it.
