Thank you betty I am going to give it my best shot or stitch. I have a Brother sewing/ quilting machine with a lot of stitches which one is the best one to applique with. The machine is smarter than me. My DH wanted me to have one of the best because I wore out a couple of cheap machines over the years. An what would be a good applique to star with? Thanks Laura

Well I have a Brother's also and even though mine is not an expensive machine it is also an embroidery machine. But Brother's has a feature that I use all the time when I do stitching around an applique. I use the Satin Stitch...
Look in your manual and it will tell you how to set up for satin stitch... once I have the control set for width...which is usually a 3.0 - 3.5 for me and for length I always use a 0.2 or 0.3.... If the thread is the same as the background a 0.3 is good but for a contrasting thread color the coverage is better at 0.2. The feature the Brothers machines have is the width control of the satin stitch. I'm not sure which machine you have but I go into menu and keep going through selections until I see the width control "on or off" I select on.. That will keep you width nice and smooth. Also you can use the Blanket Stitch...which is 4 stitches forward and one bites into the applique and then back to the edge for 4 straight stitches. Play with your machine for the stitch you can control and looks the best to you. Play with some scraps... Betty "A friend is a second self." No Michelle, I don't have a one. Isn't that horrible?
The dratted boy who lived 2 doors down won all my marbles... I knew he cheated.... he's in jail today so what does that tell you? Betty "A friend is a second self." Hi all,
Got my jelly beans posted in the album! If tomorrow at noon is the absolute deadline for letting everyone know how many I'm making, then I have to stick with my 11. If we can change it as the month goes on, I can probably get all 22 done. Let me know when you need to know. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mary T, Mary T |

Dorene, I am going to send you: 12 jars of chocolates 3 jars of gum drops 3 jars of lollipop swirls 3 jars of gum balls 3 jars of gummi bears For a total of 24 jars (Please keep any extras for your own quilt.) Thanks so much for running this swap!!! Well. I am off today to do a quilt shop hop ... where I will very likely find tons of fabric for more jars that I would like to make |
