Jenell,

I have thought about your question concerning fat quarters ever since you asked. Being the curious person I am, I decided I needed to know also.

So, I tried it. One of the fat quarters was from Joann's, the other was from a LQS. I found that if the fat quarter from Joann's had been a little larger, like the one from the LQS, I could have made 8 blocks.

I like to use one fabric in the center for half of them and the other fabric in the center for the other half. Because the Joann's fat quarter was smaller I could only make 7 blocks with the two fat quarters. This was very careful cutting with very little waste.

I am not sure how many you could make if you used the same center fabric for all of them. Probably not as many blocks.

Hope this helps.

Vicky

Good research, Vicky. And I know what you mean about JoAnns and Hancock's FQs. After they are washed they are NOT true FQs. LQS FQs are a bit larger.

I had a feeling 8 blocks would be the answer - but I hadn't taken the time to DO it. Thanks for taking the time.

I found my fabric today at the fat quarter sale on a LQS ... it is swishing in the washer with some more background fabric I needed to get to finish up my jar blocks.

I found some fish Blue Fish and some frogs and I am going to use a pebble fabric to look like the pond bottom for the borders. I will post a block as soon as I get a chance to sew these up.

Linda- I need to drop out of this swap. With everything that has happened here in the last few days, I'm having trouble even finding time to stop by to pet my sewing machine!
Sorry...I hope I can join in later in the summer.

Is novelty fabric ok for this swap? I have some cute fabric with frogs on lily pads, but the frogs are wearing bathing costumes! Is this going to be ok or do you want something more realistic?

Melita,

I think your frogs sounds adorable. I do not see any reason why they wouldn't work. Can't wait to see them. I collect frogs and I am always on the lookout for new frogs.
