A lightbulb just went off in my head. With all of the 9/11 coverage on television today, the 5th anniversary, I just thought of hosting a swap for blocks for a 9/11 Commemorative quilt. I was thinking 12" finished blocks, similar rules to the 12 Days swap. Hopefully 12 people will be interested so each person would make 12 of their block. Please let me know if you would be interested in this idea?

I'm sure everyone has ideas about what 9/11 means to them, or depicting patriotism. Maybe when the quilts are completed we could get each our local papers to print an article next 9/11? With a picture of our quilts.

Blocks received:
Linda O
Mary KS
usafret (Bev)
Debi M
Mare Quilts
KeyKat
Deb O (Debo)
Leanne
Vicky
Connie (Nawma)
Dorene (OKNANA)
Mona
Betty
Jess

Linda O. This is a fabulous idea, unfortunately I am so covered up right now with Christmas quilts to finish and all the swaps and BOMs I think I will pass on this one.

Connie -

I, too, am in too many swaps right now. I'm thinking of doing this for late spring or early summer next year, so it would be ready for next year's 9/11. Would you be interested then? Please???

I will think about this, Linda, we lost a couple dozen Canadians that day. It was a bitter-sweet day for me - first that news, then finding out I was going to be an Oma (grandma) again.

Will let you know. Great idea.

Sounds like a good one to me! My hubby is a fire fighter and I could make it for him. Neat idea. I will let you know more later on as the time gets closer. Smile

Happy Quilting!

I have always been interested in people who make me laugh!!! You can never have a dull moment with these people. And if you happen to have "one of those moments" then it's okay, they just laugh with you.

Great Idea! If this won't start until Spring, then sign me up! My son-in-law is a paramedic, and my daughter gets SO FRUSTRATED because we always hear about the policement and firemen who died at the Twin Towers, but there is very little said about the Paramedics who also died there. So I could make a quilt for my son-in-law and daughter - already have some ideas for my blocks!

Great! Many of us know someone in the fire/police/rescue field and what a wonderful way to honor them.

I will start keeping a list now. We have 4 people for sure so far. Hopefully more will jump on the fire engine as time gets closer.

So far we have:
Linda O
Debo
Nola
Connie

I will post official rules (similar to 12 Days) in early February so it is after the holidays, and close the sign-ups February 28. I'm thinking the blocks should be due to me sometime in May. That way we will have plenty of time to receive the swapped blocks and finish the quilt before 9/11/2007.

I already have ideas for two blocks!

I just googled "9/11 Quilts" and these are just some of the quilt ideas that came up on the first page. The first link is especially beautiful. It is 3500 patches, each having the name of one of the victims, and it has been on display all over the world. If you cannot click on the links you may have to cut and paste each link into your browser.
