OK, I've deleted the message with my address. And thanks for answering the size question. I figured you meant 5 inches finished, but just wanted to make sure. I going now to dunk my "uglies" into a hot water bath, then will line dry them, then get my squares cut out, so I'm already when the quilt gets to my house! This is gonna be so much fun!!!!!

Yes I think it will be a lot of fun too. I have found three uglies so far but have more stash to dig thru. One of mine is truly so ugly I'm afraid it will stand out like a sore thumb, but then thats part of the fun of this swap!!

Anxiously awaiting the start of this Swap. Have my ugly squares all cut and laying beside my sewing machine, just waiting for the Ugly Quilt to arrive at my house!!

I'm also anxious for us to begin. I haven't cut my squares yet but I certainly have some "uglies" picked out.

Have spent the last couple days going through boxes of fabric. I joined a group that sends "stuff" to one of the very poorest Indian reservations - can be anything from hats, mittens and toys for the kids, clothes and toiletries for the "battered women's clinics", school supplies, or sewing supplies for the women's sewing center. I took the "100 item challenge" and am sending 100 large squares of fabric. So I've dug through boxes and totes of fabric, had the washing machine going night and day, and have nearly worn out my rotary cutter cutting large squares of fabric to send.
Anyway, in one of those boxes I found what has got to be the world's all-time ugliest fabric!!! It's a scrap left from a pair of shorts I made my son when he was about 10 years old - sort of a psycodelic (I know that isn't spelled right!) print with purple, orange, black, and several more colors! It's positively the ugliest stuff I've ever seen! And guess what!! I cut out a 5 1/2 inch square to use in the ugly quilt!!! Nola |

Hey Nola! What determination you have going through all those fabrics - but I betcha it was fun. Like a trip down memory lane.
I think we should strive to come up with the ugliest of uglies for this quilt; maybe even award a certificate to who we, as a group, feel has truly interpreted the word ugly. Like "The 2006 Award for the Best Find in Ugly Fabrics" Don't really know if anyone will actually claim the title? Doreen |

Yeah Doreen - I like that idea!!! Yes, I have had fun going through the boxes of fabric. Hoping to drag out another box today - I think it has mostly stuff from my daughter's little dresses (she'll be 26 this month!) What I find amusing is that what we think of as "ugly" now, 20-30 years ago, we probably thought it was attractive! Like that ugly stuff my son's shorts were made from - it was all the rage 15 or so years ago! All the teen and pre-teen boys (and some girls) were wearing that kind of stuff! Of course I look at some of the stuff I wore during the "flower child" era and durn near gag!!!
I do think an award for the ugliest fabric is a great idea! Nola |

Flower Child Nola! Like split the jeans to make bell bottoms by putting red white and blue fabric with stars in between the seams? Like flower power wide brimmed hats and macrame belts? Flower wreaths upon your head? I don't know how I would know about any of that stuff...
From the sounds of your fabric collection, you must not have moved that much. When I moved to our current house, almost 10 years ago, I took a huge box of fabric (it must have weighed over 50 lbs.) and gave it to this lady that makes rugs. She was very poor and had a daughter so I'm sure she was able to make lots of rugs with that fabric. Then, I got a job as an assistant manager at a fabric store! My dream job. In no time my fabric grew and grew. During that time was when I made my first quilt, Card Tricks, for my husband. It was one of those things on my list of to do's before I die. Now I need to learn to read music, play chess and do algebra. The list grows and grows! And I'm still here Doreen |

We need to get more people signed up for this "Wonder Quilt". I got that name from Oknana who got it from Keykat's quilt tips. It means I "wonder" why I would ever buy this fabric.
If you ladies would like to vote on the Ugliest square I think that would be fun. I can make a certificate for the winner. Ok everyone needs to be a recruiter now so we can get our ugly quilt large enough to enjoy. So go out and multiply my little ugly swappers and lets get this swap going. Remember cut off date to sign up is July 15 at midnight. Connie The only people with whom you should try to get even are those who have helped you. — John E.
