Meg - My mom wouldn't let me use HER iron for MY hair!
And how about when we would positively wreck our hair with "Sun In?" That stuff smelled awful and you turned out with orange hair and the next summer, you'd do the same thinking it would turn out different. If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got. Took me too many years to learn that - and I'm not done learning.

Speaking of jean skirts; I learned to sew on a treadle machine that was my grandmother's. I made jeans all the time. After a while, I friend of mine wanted me to teach her to sew. So we got a pattern and me being the smarty pants (no pun intended) we began to make those jeans without looking at the pattern. I had been away from sewing for a while. Ended up sewing the wrong seams together and yep you guessed it - a weird looking skirt. I still remember us laughing until the tears were flowing. The good ol' days!

I'm Ohio born and lived there 39 years. Was enough for me. Packed up with my son and moved on to an adventure in New England. Never looked back and don't regret it. I do get back a few times a year as my parents still live there.

Hmmm. I wonder if I still have that red white and blue stripes and stars fabric from 1960 something?

Just had to tell you what our guild did...we swapped uglies to make charity quilts! Much to our delight...the uglies became beautiful quilts! Fabric had to be atleast 1/4 yard but some of us were VERY generous with their ugles. Really a fun show and tell...well, back to the machine!

If you don't work on it, you'll never finish it!

The ugly quilt was officially started last night around midnight. I put the first four blocks together and WOW!! are they ever ugly!!! LOL!

I will send out the info later today or tomorrow so everyone will know who is sending it to them and who they are sending it to.

After it makes the round once of all nine of us I think we can all talk about what we want to do from there. I am more than willing for it to go around again if needed and of course we may have some new members join us as we go along.

Come 'on ladies you don't want to miss out on this fun. I think the general consensus is that whoever wins the quilt top and finishes it up gets to keep it.

Anyway I will make the label later today and get it and the ugly quilt in the mail tomorrow!!!!! So should I post a picture of it now with four blocks or should we wait until it gets a bit bigger?

Connie

Connie, I vote to post a pic now, so we can remember the ugly thing's birth; then sort of chart its growth along the way - unless the pictures will take up too much space. Who knows! It may be like the ugly duckling that grew into a beautiful swan!!

Gerda I got your info. Big Grin

I thought we would do this swap in the order that we all signed on to participate. So here is the order we will use.

Connie
Doreen

Nola
Mare
Linda O
Tenacity
Gerda
Meg

We will decide after it gets to the end of the list if we need to send it around again. Hopefully we can get some others to join in once they see how much fun we are having.

Remember to sign and date the label and take a picture of the quilt after you add your squares. You can post your pics in the Ugly Quilt Swap album and then notify us here that it has been posted.

I will soon send out emails with email address of the person sending the quilt to you and the mailing address and email address of the person you are sending the quilt to. Please keep in touch with each other when you are in line to send or receive the quilt. Also post here to let us all know where it is and everyone's impression of its beauty! Confused

Also please remember to use a Delivery Confirmation process to mail the quilt on its way. That will help us keep tract of it and insure its safe journey from one quilter to another.

I am about to post a picture of the beginning of the quilt and the label I made in the Ugly Quilt Album.

Check it out ladies and look for an email from me soon.

I don't think you can read the label so here is what it says. Smile

From hand to hand we pass this "Ugly Quilt". Each of us happily adds a few pieces of "I wonder why I bought that" fabric until our quilt is complete. The lucky winner of our drawing will treasure this quilt always as a testament to our ability to make something fun out of even our ugliest fabrics.

The picture shows two hands holding on to one another in the middle of a bundle of flowers. This represents the connection between us all as we pass around our quilt.

Hope this suits you all. There is lots of room for signatures. Smile

Just viewed the birthing pics of our "baby". I thought this was supposed to be an ugly quilt. How can anything be unattractive if it has purple in it? Just like all babies, I think it's beautiful.
